An Introduction to Strategic Planning
Strategic planning directs
a school district’s efforts and resources toward agreed-upon
goals. A planning team---a microcosm of the school district and
community---examines where the schools are now (internal and external

what members hold in common (beliefs) and their idea of the
schools’ reason for being (mission). Afterwards, small groups
determine how each strategy can best be achieved (action plans). The
Strategic Planning Process produces results-based, action-oriented plans
spanning a 3 to 5 year period.
