Geometry

Textbook:  UCSMP Geometry – Integrated Mathematics – Scott Foresman / Addison Wesley

Course Description:  This class will cover basic components of geometry, such as points, lines, and planes.   We will explore the relationship between these fundamental aspects of geometry and the shapes that they create.  We will also work on applying algebra to various geometric shapes for measurements of angles, sides, areas, volumes, perimeters, ratios, and proportions.  Intuitive, inductive, and deductive reasoning will be covered as well as various forms of logic applied in geometry proofs.

Classroom Management:  Each student is responsible for choosing to behave in class.  Excellent behavior is expected in my class at all times.  As long as you make good choices, you will succeed in this class without any problems.

Make-Up Work:  If you miss class, you will need to check the Chapter Packet board or a fellow student to get the work that you missed. Please make sure you get all assignments and turn them in within a couple of days.

Grading Policy
A  =  93-100               A- =  90-92               B+ =  85-89               B = 83-85

B- = 80-82                  C+ = 75-79               C   = 70-74               C- = 70-72

D+ = 65-69                 D   = 60-64               D- = 60-62               F   =  < 59

Hall Passes:  Hall passes are given when appropriate.  If you abuse this policy, consequences may follow. DO NOT ask for a pass to get water.  Bring a bottle of water to class.

Everyone has the opportunity in my class to be successful.  I will give you that chance; I encourage you to take advantage of it.

Class Procedures

  • There will be at least one quiz per week. These will vary in length and points.
  • Each Chapter you will be expected to turn in a Chapter Packet which will contain all of the homework assignments you have completed throughout the chapter. This can be used on the test. It will be worth 30 points per chapter.
  • There will be Chapter Tests every two-four weeks. These will be a large chunk of your grade, so make sure that you are prepared for the tests. We will have one in-class study day only for tests. You will be notified early when tests and quizzes will be given.
  • My goal is to have a variety of different assignments, projects, and activities this year. I will be trying some different things at times. Just remember, I am working to give you the best possible opportunity to pass my class. I will do anything I can to help you.

Algebra I

Textbook:  UCSMP Algebra - Integrated Mathematics – Scott Foresman / Addison Wesley

Course Description:  This course is designed to help students become aware of and to use the mathematical system beyond the arithmetic fundamentals.  The course is a development of the real number system stressing its logical sequence and structure.  Performing basic algebraic operations, simplifying algebraic expressions, and solving equations and inequalities by algebraic methods are the basic foundations of the course.  Skills in algebra are developed through topic motivation, detailed examples, and a variety of written exercises with an emphasis on practical application.

Classroom Management:  Each student is responsible for choosing to behave in class.  Excellent behavior is expected in my class at all times.  As long as you make good choices, you will succeed in this class without any problems.
