Student Expectations

You will earn your grade in this course by meeting a variety of expectations:

  • Daily assignments: In-class assignments are to be completed as assigned and are usually due by the end of the class periodTeachers reserve the right to have a FINAL date for turning in work, even though they may deduct points for late work.
  • Independent Student Learning In addition to teacher directed learning activities, you will complete student directed learning activities, you will complete student-directed learning modules during class.  If you do not complete them, you will NOT pass the class.  This is a requirement from the Michigan State Department of Education.
  • Daily Work Habits: Through daily observation your daily work habits will be evaluated.   This also will reflect your attendance and ability to be on time as well as your understanding of professional dress.  We feel that since future employers will be very interested in your attendance at work, it is also a good habit to develop in class.
  • Quizzes, Tests, and Projects: Quizzes, tests, and projects provide for a more inclusive review of course material.  Projects and some modules may take more than one class session to complete.
  • Portfolio: According to the Michigan Department of Education, there are several factors that make a person employable in Michigan.  To demonstrate your acquisition of these factors you will begin to DO some items this year that you can put in a portfolio illustrating your skills and accomplishments.
  • Make-up Work: It is YOUR responsibility to see what needs to be made up.  When you are absent, the work MUST BE made up “within” 2 school days of the day you are absent.  You must ask for makeup work, it is not your teachers’ responsibility you are absent.  You must ask for make up work, it is not your teachers’ responsibility to see that you get it including taking tests.
  • Cheating will not be tolerated.  There will be a warning issued the first time this occurs as well as a 0% given on the assignment.  This will include a letter being sent to your parents/guardians to inform them of this offense.  This letter goes out restricted delivery so that they have to sign for it at the post office.  It informs them that this is a serious offense and that the second offense is a loss of credit for the semester.  A copy of the letter to the parents will be placed in your permanent file in the office.  NO exceptions to this rule!!  If you do this again, you will fail the semester and have to retake the class as a senior.
  • Overall Grade: This will be calculated as follows:  the AVERAGE of your grade for 30%-daily assignments & work habits, 40%-modules, 20%- tests & quizzes, and 10%-timings.
