Classroom Goals:
- Welcome to the sixth grade at River Valley. To help you have a more productive school year, I have developed a set of classroom goals for each class I teach. Please see the goals for Mathematics and Language Arts. Accelerated Reading is included for my homeroom students.
Accomplishing this will require cooperation:
- Think of this class like a sport such as basketball or track. You will have to work hard independently, but you will also have to work effectively with other students and with me.
Guidelines for Success:
Winners make their own luck. They achieve.
- Plan for your future
- Raise your expectations
- Inspire progress
- Dare to try
- Expect to excel
Classroom rules: Winners know the rules and follow them:
- Come to class every day that you are not sick.
- Arrive on time with everything you need for class.
- Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
- Follow directions the first time.
- Stay on task during all work times.
Consequences for Classroom Rule Violations: Depending on the frequency and severity of the misbehavior, you may receive one or more of the following consequences:
- Change in seating assignment
- Parental contact
- Detention
- Office referral
Consequences for Code of Conduct Violations: Please read your student handbook and share it with your parents. If a student breaks a Code of Conduct rule that is covered by the handbook I must refer the situation to the office administrator. The office will make the decisions on parental contact, police involvement and other matters. This is part of my work, and not my decision. If you violate a Code of Conduct rule, it will be handled out of class.
Entering the Classroom:
- Quietly enter the room and pick up your notebook and other materials needed for class
- Return to your seat and listen to directions for the day’s activities
Ending Class:
- One minute before the end of class, I will prepare to end the day’s session. The bell is my signal to end class and you are not dismissed until I dismiss you. It is not appropriate to pack up early. There will be times that class will be conducted past the bell. I will notify your next hour teacher so you don’t need to worry about being tardy.
Pen or Pencil:
- You may use pencil or erasable pen
- You should write in cursive unless given the option to print
- Assignments should be neat and orderly – your best work
Turning in Assignments:
- Assignments will be collected individually by Mr. Gedert or Mrs. Nuss
- Late assignments should be given directly to Mr. Gedert or Mrs. Nuss – late assignments will be penalized 10%
- No assignments will be accepted if over two weeks late unless approved by Mr. Gedert
Returned Assignments:
- Assignments will be returned to you in class.
- Record your score in the grade folder and keep the assignment there until they are taken home. It is your responsibility to keep this record updated
- If an assignment is missing check with Mr. Gedert to see if you’ve turned it in, otherwise, assume it is missing and needs to be completed
Finding Your Grade Status:
- Keep your grade sheet in your notebook up-to-date and average it occasionally - we’ll do this during math
- Check the internet – your grades are posted and can be viewed by going to the "Parent Viewer" tab at the top of the webpage.
- Schedule an appointment to see Mr. Gedert during lunch, before or after school for a conference
Student Responsibilities after an Absence:
- Check the front board for assignments when you return
- Book pages are done on notebook paper – if you need a worksheet it is up to you to see Mr. Gedert or Mrs. Nuss to pick it up
- If you are absent multiple days you should have your parents call student services in the morning so your teachers can get it together- It can be picked up at student services after school
- After completing the work it is your responsibility to turn it in.
Expectations:
I expect from you the best effort that you have to give. I can’t ask for any more than that. Remember, your future is tied to what you do in school and there is no substitute for a good education in today’s society. This is the time that you have to develop intellectually, socially and emotionally. Use this time wisely.
You can expect from me my best effort in helping you to develop into the person you want to be. I will push you when you don’t want to be pushed. I will have high expectations for your work when you may just want to get done. I may be critical of your work or your behavior, not because I dislike you, but because I want you to be successful. I will be there to help you when you need it – just ask.
