Below is a list of the classes and clubs I will be teaching this year as well as my class syllabus. Please click on the button for each class to see each week's agenda and homework assignments. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Language Arts-7th grade
Mrs. Wegner
Purpose:
The purpose of seventh grade Language Arts is for students to become self-sufficient,
literate, individuals, who understand and appreciate literature. Students examine,
construct, and extend meaning from life, language, print and non-print experiences.
They continue to improve on written and oral communication through a literature-
based curriculum, with an emphasis on reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Topics Covered:
- Students will improve their writing skills using various formats
- Students will improve their understanding of grammar and writing mechanics
- Students will read and analyze a wide variety of literature,
- A novel, short stories, drama and poetry.
- Students will demonstrate improved communication skills through prepared and impromptu speeches.
Oration Contest:
Students will participate in The Modern Woodmen of America Contest. Topic is to be announced in March. They are graded on three readings and the development of a 3-5 minute speech. Students will know how to develop an effective speech. Winners will have a chance to compete in the school competition.
Portfolios and Journals
The students will keep a portfolio and journal containing samples of their writing. Portfolio entries will be final drafts of essays written, journals will be free response. Grammar and spelling are stressed throughout the year in the student’s individual writings as well as handouts or worksheets.

Grading Policy
- There will be periodic book, folder and portfolio checks that will be part of the grade. Portfolios will be provided for you and kept in the classroom.
- Assignment or Test/Quiz make up policy as is outlined in the student handbook. Only those students with Excused absences may make up the work missed.
- It is your responsibility to find out what grades you may be missing. Ask me before or after class for a grade printout if needed. Printouts will be handed out on a regular basis. Your points earned are divided by the total points possible to determine your grade percentage.
- The grading scale for the River Valley School District is as follows:
A 92.5% C+ 76.5% D- 59.5%
A- 89.5% C 73%
B+ 86.5% C- 69.5%
B 83% D+ 66.5%
B- 79.5% D 63
Materials
Students will need to purchase and bring to class each day:
- Paper folder with prongs
- Writing utensil
