Lakeshore Rotary Contest Congratulations to Jessie Rieth and her winning essay, "A Day with Harriet Tubman" in the Lakeshore Rotary Essay Contest. Sixth graders from several school districts were invited to submit their entries and Lakeshore Rotarians had the difficult job of not only picking school winners from each district, but also an overall winner from all of the entries submitted. Jessie earned the top spot this year with her essay written on the topic, “If you could spend a day with any one person, who would you choose, and why?” Jessie will not only receive $100 check, she received a plaque with her name engraved on it for display here at the school along with a nice luncheon with the Rotary Club.

On May 14th the students took part in a speech contest sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal financial services organization. Students competing in the contest shared their presentation on this year's topic, "A person who has overcome." The winners were Mason Derkacy, first place; Chloe Naumann, second place; and Sydney Moore, third place. Each of them received a trophy and their names will be engraved on the school's speech contest plaque. Gold award pins were also given to the nine ranking finalists, including: Georvon Flores, Allyson Olson, Teya Haughey, Jacob Sharpe, Hannah Korbel, and Katharine Kersey.

Mustang Student Credit Union
Beginning in the fall 2013, Honor Credit Union and River Valley School will partner to host the Mustang Student Credit Union at the River Valley Middle/High School campus.  This student credit union will be run by Honor Credit Union volunteers, employees and River Valley students for the purpose of teaching valuable financial skills.  Any student can start an account with as little as a $1.00 deposit.  An account opened at Mustang Student Credit Union is a regular Honor Credit Union youth account (no fees apply).  Your student’s account will remain active and continue to grow with them into adulthood.  We will be sending account applications in the fall for your student to get started.  Both a parent and the student must sign the account form at the bottom. Then have your student return the form to the main office at River Valley Schools.  The Mustang Student Credit Union will be opening in the fall 2013; first deposits can be made at that time.  Any questions please contact us at 800.442.2800: Jessica Kehrer ext 9301 or Tanya Urias ext 3500 www.honorcu.com
