You may recall last fall that I had written in the Mustang Matters about the pending closure of Warren Woods Road between Three Oaks Road and our school driveway on Warren Woods Road so construction crews can replace a culvert and finish the road construction. Well, winter came and that work did not get done. Well, now spring is here, so it is road construction season again. We've been notified that Warren Woods Road between Three Oaks Road and our driveway on Warren Woods Road will be closed beginning March 16, 2026. It will likely be closed for over a month. Unless we are notified otherwise, beginning on March 16, there will be two options for entering the school campus instead of taking Warren Woods Road directly from Three Oaks Road: 1. Take East Road, which is the next road north of Warren Woods Road to the west from Three Oaks Road and go left on Prairie Road. Then go left on Warren Wood Road. You can then go right into our school driveway off Warren Woods Road as you normally do. 2. Enter our school campus from Three Oaks Road using our main entrance. Students and Staff can enter and park where you normally do. Parents dropping off MHS students will enter and turn left at the stop sign on the west side of the parking lot and drive into the drop-off lane near the gym and exit as you normally do. Families dropping off elementary students will enter and turn to the right at the stop sign on the west side of the parking lot and get in the line along the north side of the north lot as you normally do. It will be congested at the beginning and end of the day, so please use East and Prairie Road if possible. We will have our SRO and administrators out to help direct traffic in our parking lot to help you get used to the new traffic flow. Road construction can be frustrating, but it is so nice when it is done, so it's worth the hassle. Please see the maps for more details and let me know if you have any questions. Mustangs Matter. Our Preschool and Kindergarten Round Up is almost here, and we cannot wait to welcome our newest Mustangs for Fall 2026. Join us on Wednesday April 22, 2026, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at River Valley Elementary for an exciting evening designed especially for incoming families. This is a wonderful opportunity to tour the building, meet our teachers, and turn in your enrollment packet. Preschool is open to children who are 4 years old by September 1, 2026, and our Preschool Program is full day. Kindergarten is open to children who are 5 years old by September 1, 2026. FACILITY IMPROVEMENT UPDATE We are continuing to make progress on our Strategic Plan goal of continually improving our facilities to ensure an excellent learning environment. As you have likely noticed if you've been to the MHS lately, we have replaced many older doors. Our gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria, hallway, and offices all have many new doors that look excellent. In addition, we have replaced several sets of exterior doors that were in poor condition and installed new flashing in several other areas making us more energy efficient. At our November 24 Board Meeting, our board approved the design and bidding of a new floor in the Jerry Schaffer Gymnasium, replacing our original floor that has become too thin with the last 60 years of use. The Board also approved the design and bidding of our existing parking lot was approved for design and bidding. Also approved for design and bidding was the replacement of the planter with curbing and possibly a decorative fence, as well as replacement of sidewalks on the northside of our school. The board also approved design and bidding for widening the driveway near the south driveway to provide more room for parent pickup/drop-off near the elementary school. At our December 8th Work Session, the board approved designing and seeking bids to replace the older sections of sidewalk on the east side (front) of our school. The plan for the south/construction parking lot is to return it to grass and close the driveway to the lot this summer when the rest of the construction is occurring. Approving the design and bidding does not mean the work has been approved. It's an important step in the process as it allows the Board to make decisions based on actual bids, rather than estimates. Key decisions will be made when the bids come in this spring and the Board will decide which projects to actually complete this summer. We are hopeful that the bids will come back favorably, so we will be able to complete more work to improve our facilities in order to help create an excellent learning environment as called for in our Strategic Plan. Our architects have focused their capacity on the parking areas and will be starting a more comprehensive Facility Condition Assessment and Master Facility Plan which will guide our facility improvement in the years to come. We know that the Facility Condition Assessment will shine a light on many facility issues we have to resolve so we are approaching these facility improvements frugally as we need to stretch our dollars as far as they can go.
