Facility Update

We held another Traffic Flow/Parking Lot Committee meeting at which we looked at various options for improving our traffic flow on the north side of MHS.  Brian Brown, our Director of Finance and Operations, and I conducted surveys of many parents who wait in the north lot to drop off and pick up their elementary kids after the buses leave.  We heard a pretty high level of satisfaction for our current practices (especially in the morning), with the main concern being the three way "pinch point" near the old tennis courts in the afternoon.   We thank our bus drivers for using Warren Woods Road to return to the bus garage area in the morning as that has helped free up the traffic flow.  After the committee meeting, we took a deeper look at (and under) the planter and whether we could successfully pave around it.  Since the planter was built on the pavement, it could be a problem to pave around it, so we are considering replacing it with a curved island, possibly with some fencing to funnel foot traffic.

We're also looking into the issue of some of our youngest kiddoes needing assistance with their car seats and the delays that can cause on the elementary side and how we could improve traffic flow. We are also considering an option of paving the south parking lot to increase overall parking capacity closer to the elementary school.  Our architects and construction managers are working hard to develop options for our board to consider to improve our traffic flow/parking lots.

We are also looking to replace the gym floor next summer as it is the original floor and is quite thin.

Once these bids are put together for the renovation of our parking lots and gym floor for 2026, Wightman, our architects, will shift their attention to our overall Facility Condition Assessment and Master Facility Plan, which will help us better plan future improvements.
